Around Dutchland, July, 1995 by Penny Pyrbred Well, Penny made it to the Ohio National Specialty, and what a show it was! As mentioned in the last issue, Conrad Gill kindly served as escort and proved a charming companion. I'm afraid he didn't perform very well in Open A Obedience because there was a "101 Dalmatians" film festival on cable the night before, and Penny may have kept him up a little late. Sorry about that, but who ever heard of Obedience at 7:00 am??? Even Tri-International Champion Estat d'Argeles was not at his best before noon! Both people and Pyrs partied down and not one human seems to have marked a catalog, so we'll have to wait till the next issue of the GPCA Bulletin comes out to find out who won what. That dashing Penn-Dutchie, Whitney Coombs, was conformation judge at the National, and probably remembers who won those classes if you are impatient. The hotel was really nice (great cable), and the Pyr hospitality suite rocked late into the night. The human banquet was reportedly very tasty, but served in a hasty manner. Fortunately the Pyr party experienced no such problem. (I'd just like to see some busboy TRY to remove a plate of tartar control Milk Bones from under Penny's nose before she is finished! They'd be trying to remove Penny's pearly white teeth from his arm!!). The Spring Walk-in-the-Woods was great fun, but Penny overslept, and missed yet another one. These things should be held late in the day and in air conditioned comfort. Clondike Kintsfather also missed the event, so the dachshunds were not mistaken for the lunch. Speaking of Clondike, she woke up the neighborhood at 6:00 am recently when she found two deer standing across the street from her house making faces at her through her front window. She was very upset when her humans told her that her PA dog license did not permit her to hunt deer. What Penny doesn't understand is what Clondike was doing up at 6:00 am. Coming home from a late party perhaps? The Penn-Dutch Regional Specialty was held June 17th, in conjunction with the Bryn Mawr KC's 75th annual show. Penny really likes rubbing noses with these main line canines. These are dogs that appreciate the finer things in life! Timber Simon took best of breed and a group 2nd, while the people and Pyrs enjoyed a great tailgate party. Later at the hotel, the people had a banquet while we Pyrs held our own separate party. I'm pleased to note that there was no damage to the facilities this year, and a good time was had by all. Coming up July 29th is the social event of the summer, the Pyrenean Fun Day at Lancaster Central Park. This year the people have decided to leave out the judging part, and just have fun! We Pyrs always do that anyway, so come on out and enjoy! See you there. (NOTE: Please use your browser's "BACK" button to return to the Around Dutchland page.)
