Around Dutchland, November, 1994 by Penny Pyrbred Just as the Penn-Dutch Fun Match was the social event of the summer, the Educational Seminar was the educational event of the fall! Penny picked up lots of helpful beauty tips from Dave Simon, health tips from two veterinarians, and tips on deportment from Jane Gill, ably assisted by Conrad Gill and Ms. PB Marple. The Boy Scouts provided a variety of great food which was supposed to be for the people, but much of which ended up in us Pyrs. The weather was perfect for the humans, and only a little warm for those of us with permanent fur coats. The program was very well planned, and enjoyed by nearly 90 people, many with their Pyrs. Putting the lecture on dog vomiting right after lunch might not have been the best planning, but the Committee is to be commended for an excellent event. Penny saw many old friends, and met some new ones. She was particularly pleased to meet two of Molly Hardy-Bowes' puppies, Sophie Buckwalter and Mac Burger. Penny also got to know Buddy Tartamella, Chelsea Unger, a very nice Newfy named Bowie, a Labrador named Maggie who was a visual aid for one of the health programs, and a really macho Akita who is a park security dog. It was nice to see Serenity Schreiber, Katie and Hannah Manwiller, JEB Buckwalter, and Maggie McCarron. Clondike Kintsfather showed up sporting the "shaved" look (hot spots she says). Newly certified therapy dog, Brutus Gress, got to try pulling the cart, and made it look easy. Anything a Newf can do, a Pyr can do better! There were so many Pyrs there that I'm sure I visited with many more whose names have escaped me at the moment. There will be more information about the seminar in the next issue, so stay tuned. Members of Reading-Berks AAA may have noticed that Zorro Ludwig had his picture in the October issue of the newsletter. Way to go! We are becoming a more high profile breed. You may remember that Zorro hosted last year's "Walk in the Woods." Meanwhile, Clondike suggests all us Pyrs get together while the people party down in Sinking Spring at the people only Holiday Party. Sounds good to me. I hope that someday the people realize that we are party animals and include us in all club events! See you soon.
