Around Dutchland, September, 1994 by Penny Pyrbred The social event of the summer, the Penn-Dutch Fun Match, was attended by over 60 people and 35 Pyrs and other Canine Americans. Penny was especially happy to see so many new faces, fuzzy and otherwise. The people, once again, lucked out with respect to the weather. While a little warm for those of us with permanently attached fur coats, there was a nice breeze and the humidity lessened as the day progressed. There were so many entries for the obedience and conformation events that the people wimped out and didn't hold the much publicized "dog games." I have to say there were some disappointed Pyrs, but in general, a good time was had by all. Conrad Gill began the day by showing his stuff, although Cory Seigfried took honors for high score in obedience. Somewhat less obedient (and let's face it, more Pyrlike) was the performance of Snickers Simon when Dylan took him in the ring for Junior Showmanship. He didn't realize what the little fence was for and calmly jumped over it to visit with some friends. Conrad took him aside later and explained the "rules" and how, silly as it seems, it is beneficial in the long run to go along with the humans' little games. It was nice to see the very elegant E.V. Dalton/DuPont win Best Adult in Match. Penny and E.V. later shared beauty secrets, as well as discussing the relative merits of some of the young studs present. Speaking of studs, Bo Bowes looked every inch the proud papa, as he took Best Adult Pyr of Opposite Sex in Match. Molly Hardy-Bowes was pleased with his performance, but was anxious to get back to their kids. Bo passed around Penny's favorite, Tartar Control Milk Bones, as he received congratulations from his Pyrs. Brutus Gress, a real Southern gentlePyr, treated Penny to a mint julep. What a treat! Penny was also pleased to make the acquaintance of: Otis Smith, Pyr and Sugar Synnestvedt, Melody Burger, Annie Skiptunas, Lily Stauffer, and several other new Penn-Dutchies whose names seem to have escaped (possibly post-mint julep). Of course it was also great to see so many of Penny's old friends come out to party down with their people. In other news, Penny has learned that Topton Security Pyr, Clondike Kintsfather, was recently attacked by a marauding Sheltie. She eventually managed to intimidate the upstart, but not before being nipped on the ankle. Maybe Clondike can pick up some tips on the martial arts at the Professional Seminar on November 5th. Penny is looking forward to learning lots of things about Pyr health and beauty. Whether or not you can make it to the Seminar, all Pyrs and their people will want to participate in the Holiday Party in Sinking Spring on December 3rd. It will be the party of the year! Happy Halloween, and I hope to see you soon. (NOTE: Please use your browser's "BACK" button to return to the Around Dutchland page.)
