Around Dutchland, April, 1994 by Penny Pyrbred The big social event of the winter was the Canine Learning Experience held January 29th at the Agricultural Hall of the Allentown Fairgrounds. Among those present were moi (of course), Alex Manwiller, Conrad Gill, Clondike Kintsfather, an ocean of Simon puppies, a Schappell puppy, and a host of other Pyrs. The Dogo Argentinos scheduled for the next booth wimped out because of the weather, and we Pyrs got more room to spread out. It's a great Pyr event because all we have to do is look cute and be adored by the dog-loving public. This sure beats all the grooming, posing, and jogging involved in showing, not to mention all that obedience nonsense. Alex Manwiller played gracious host, having helped parents, Jay and Annette, set up the booth. He was a little overprotective of us bitches, but he is quite a hunk! Dew claws came in real handy in negotiating the parking lot, a really neat skating rink. Some humans who were not properly equipped found it very slippery! The humans won best educational booth for the fourth year in a row, thanks to an outstanding educational display produced by the Manwiller family. Way to go, gang! Of course the judges may have been swayed just a little bit by the canine beauty on display out front. Speaking of canine beauty, did you catch the handsome Pyr posing with Daryl Hannah in a recent issue of Paris Match? He must be a relative of Estat d' Argeles. That Ms. Hannah sure knows how to pick her canine companions. Also on an international note, Penny was hoping that Volvo Motor Company would provide a loaner 850 turbo wagon for an extended road test. Perhaps there was some confusion as to Penny's address (a closely guarded secret). Penny can always be reached in care of the editors in Brick, NJ. Penny (who, finding dew claws a poor substitute for thumbs, does not drive herself) can arrange to have her chauffeur pick up the car any time at Garden State Volvo in Wall Township, NJ. Penny expects to see many Penn-Dutch people and Pyrs at the Harrisburg Dog Show, Saturday, April 16th. Both Pyrs and people have parties planned, so come and enjoy! The Pyrs of the Midwest are planning a blowout at the National Specialty, April 28-30, in Des Moines, Iowa. Penny, a bicoastal kind of bitch, is not planning to attend, but for those Pyrs who make the trip, hoist a few for me and have a great time!
